Gentle Beginner Reset Protocol

Detox protocol

Gentle Beginner Reset Protocol

A slow, food-first four weeks for first-timers: one prep week, then three gentle weeks.

A gentle place to start if you’ve never done a detox before, or want a calm restart after a busy season. It uses only everyday foods, fibre, water, movement and a few relaxing practices: no binders, no parasite herbs and no fasting. The aim is steadier digestion, regular bowel movements, better hydration and a few habits that stick. It isn’t a treatment for any disease, and it doesn’t “remove” anything from the body; it supports your body’s normal routines of eating, drinking, moving, sleeping and going to the bathroom.

This page is the free overview. The full week-by-week reset, with a daily checklist, shopping list and safety notes, is in the Remedies Vault. See what’s in the Vault →

Is this protocol for you?

It suits:

  • Healthy adults who want an easy first step before trying anything stronger
  • People who feel bloated, irregular or sluggish after a stretch of convenience food, alcohol or poor sleep, with no red-flag symptoms
  • Anyone planning a more focused protocol later who wants their digestion and bowel habits steady first

Skip it, or ask your doctor first, if you: are pregnant or breastfeeding; are under 18; have or have had an eating disorder; have kidney disease, heart failure or a fluid or fibre restriction; have a bowel narrowing, past bowel blockage, swallowing problems, inflammatory bowel disease or recent bowel surgery; or take insulin or other diabetes medicine. If you take any regular medication, check with your pharmacist first, because fibre can slow how some medicines are absorbed.

Call 911 or go to an emergency department for chest pain, trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips or throat, choking, severe belly pain, vomiting blood, black or bloody stools, fainting or confusion.

How it works: four gentle weeks

Prep week · Get ready, change nothing big

Notice your starting point for a week (bowel habits, sleep, energy, bloating, how much water you drink), check your medicines with your pharmacist, stock up on simple whole foods, and pick one or two practices you’d enjoy.

Week 1 · Lower the load

Cut back on ultra-processed food, added sugar, sweet drinks and alcohol; drink water steadily through the day; eat three regular meals with protein and vegetables.

Week 2 · Open the exits

Raise fibre slowly toward Health Canada’s daily targets with extra water, mostly from vegetables, fruit, beans, oats and seeds, and move gently every day, such as a walk.

Week 3 · Settle and support

Keep the habits that helped, aim for regular, comfortable bowel movements, and add an optional relaxing practice if it suits you. Keep a steady sleep schedule.

Safety first

  • Add one new thing at a time, a few days apart, so you can tell what agrees with you.
  • A bit more gas or bloating in the first week or two of higher fibre is common; ease in more slowly.
  • Feeling worse is not a sign that it’s working. If you feel unwell, slow down or stop.
  • This is not a fast or a calorie cut. Eat enough.
